Soon after the AirAsia’s flight QZ8501 disappeared over the Java Sea on Sunday morning, the domestic carrier AirAsia Zest’s plane Z2272 with 159 passengers on board overshot a runway at Kalibo International Airport near Boracay, Aklan. The flight originated from Manila. AirAsia Zest is partly owned by AirAsia Philippines.
Giovanni Hontomin, AirAsia Zest’s operations, said crew members helped passengers disembark safely from the Airbus A320-200 by activating an emergency slide. The plane remains stuck in a grassy area near the runway’s end. No injuries or deaths were reported.
